Lactase – it is safe for those allergic to dairy?

Pills to reduce or eliminate pain from eating various foods have different ingredients, some work and some don’t. Gaia has a good one, but it doesn’t work 100% of the time. My friend Corey recommended a brand he uses, but after reading the ingredient list, I wasn’t sure if I could have it since I’m allergic to milk and it has lactase. I know this is an enzyme to help people break down milk sugar, but I don’t consume any milk, and don’t need lactase. (I really need a cure for the milk allergy!). I contacted the company and they said it shouldn’t be a problem. I researched on the web and found nothing specific enough. I called my allergist and he said there is no milk protein in lactase, therefore, I will not have an allergic reaction to it. Fabulous, but what is it derived from? He said, most likely it is created in a lab, from fungus. Okay so I can have it, but now I have to get over how gross that is!

  1. I didn’t know that lactase didn’t have milk protein. Good to know that now.
