What are obesogens? (Which items contain obesogens that cause weight gain?)

You exercise like crazy and eat clean, but no matter what you do, those pounds won’t come off. What’s contributing to our obesity epidemic may be from obesogens, toxins, that harm the environment, make us hungrier, and slow our metabolism (1). “Bruce Blumberg, PhD, professor of developmental and cell biology at the University of California” who is studying the correlation of poisons in our environment with obesity, said that “mice in his lab that are exposed to obesogens in utero grow up to be about 15% heavier.” (1). You cannot separate yourself from obesogens because they’re everywhere, even in the material that makes up your yoga mat. These endocrine disruptors are in air fresheners, perfumes, cash register receipts, canned vegetables, Teflon nonstick pans, shower curtains, soy, and hand sanitizers (1). That’s not even a complete list!

What you can do to lessen your exposure is to eat organic fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils and greens, make as much food from scratch, use essential oils instead of perfume or cologne, use fabric shower curtains, and avoid dairy and animal products.
