What NOT to do when hiking

Angel's Landing

I just came back from hiking in Utah. See attached photo of me climbing up Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park. What surprised me was how many people were not prepared. I saw people wearing jeans and sandals in the hot afternoon sun. Many people didn’t have a hat, sunscreen, water or food and came back sunburned, dehydrated, exhausted and in pain. I brought my stopwatch to make sure I had a snack every two hours and was glad to have a jacket since the temperature changed drastically, from a low of 44 with strong cold winds to a high of 72 with the sun’s burning rays making it feel like 82 degrees. It’s always a good idea to bring extras just in case you need it.
