Insulin & Bodybuilding: Is it worth the risk?

Weight lifters who want to gain size sometimes inject synthetic insulin. To get the low-down on this I spoke to endocrinologist Dr. Lee at Scripps whose many patents are insulin-dependent. He said that some bodybuilders consume massive amounts of carbs, then give themselves many units of insulin. In time, these bodybuilders may appear bigger, but the fact is, they are actually storing more calories in their fat cells, and these fat cells add mass, not more muscle.

It’s very risky to take insulin, or any medication, if you don’t need it. When you take insulin your pancreas goes into sleep mode because it doesn’t need to work if you’re adding insulin. Sometimes, the pancreas doesn’t wake up. Insulin is a dangerous drug, so don’t use it to get buff…it won’t work.
