The rule that you can lose a pound of weight if you reduce calories by 3500 and/or increase exercise is both true and false. This theory was published in a scientific paper over 55 years ago! When you initially lower your calories, or up your activity, you can usually lose that 1 pound with the old formula, but over time, the weight loss becomes stagnant. This is frequently called a plateau. To get over this hump, you’ll need to lower your calories further (ugh), and work harder in the gym.
